Man Utd transfer news LIVE updates: Red Devils snubbed Mesut Ozil signing, done deal
MANCHESTER UNITED news is coming in thick and fast as the transfer window draws to a close and Express Sport is on hand to bring you the latest updates involving Alexis Sanchez and co.
United refused Ozil guarantees
17:30: Manchester United told Mesut Ozil they could give him no guarantees about a move to Old Trafford before the 29-year-old signed a new Arsenal contract, according to reports.
Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst has taken to Twitter to say United told him they could offer him no promises over a move when the two camps communicated earlier in the season.
“United made Mesut Ozil no promises they would sign him in the summer when they touched base earlier this season,” he said on the subject of the Arsenal star.
“Seeing them sign Sanchez must’ve killed Ozil’s hope of reuniting with Mourinho. United got the superior Arsenal attacker.”
Man Utd done deal
16:15: Manchester United have sent Charlie Scott on loan to Hamilton.
Manchester United have already signed one player on transfer deadline day - goalkeeper Matej Kovar.
And the activity continues into the afternoon as Scott moves north of the border.
In a statement, Hamilton wrote: “The club are delighted to announce the signing of Charlie Scott, a 20 year old midfielder, on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.
“This is with a view to a permanent move. We are awaiting international clearance.”
Man Utd snubbed Ozil to sign Mata
15:45: Manchester United reportedly “baulked” at Mesut Ozil's wage demands amid reports the Arsenal midfielder is on the verge of signing a new contract.
Ozil is out of contract in the summer and has been in extensive talks for several months without an agreement.
But following reports in Germany, it is understood an agreement has been finally reached on a deal worth over £300,000-a-week.
Manchester United had been strongly linked with Ozil in a move that would have seen him link up with his former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
However Arsenal appear to have finally tied down one of their major assets and according to the Independent, they were aided by Manchester United dropping their interest in the player.
The report says that when United learned of Ozil’s wage demands, they walked away from negotiations and pushed to sign a contract extension with Juan Mata instead.
It was confirmed yesterday that United triggered a clause in Mata’s contract to extend it by a year.
Varane on the market
15:00: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will reportedly allow Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to sign Raphael Varane if he coughs up €60m (£53m).
Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer of the French defender but his attempts in the past to bring him to Old Trafford have proved futile.
However, Perez is said to be coming concerned by Varane's displays this season and could cash in on him at the end of the season.
Spanish publication Don Balon claim he 'accepts' Mourinho's offer of £53m for a deal to be finalised.
Done Deal: United sign 'talented' goalkeeper
14:00: Manchester United have completed a deadline day deal to sign Matej Kovar.
It is the club’s first piece of business today and may well be the last incoming deal.
“Matej Kovar has joined Manchester United from FC Slovacko, subject to international clearance,” it read on the club’s website.
“The 17-year-old is a talented young goalkeeper who has already appeared for Czech Republic’s Under-18s on two occasions, highlighting his promising pedigree and excellent potential.
“An exciting prospect, Kovar has signed a professional contract with the club and will soon join the ranks of the Academy, specifically with Kieran McKenna's impressive Under-18s team.”
